Like everyone else, I saw the Ask.com “Use Tools” commercial campaign that blanketed tv for some time. The strange thing is that I can’t recall seeing any of their ads recently. I say it’s strange because it seems that Ask.com is starting to get, and give, some traffic all of a sudden. A delayed reaction to the ads, perhaps?
Whatever is the cause, something is happening. It’s not on the scale of Google’s great leaps a few years back. However, it’s something to be noted and acted on.
My past experience with Ask was never encouraging. I consistently saw listings of sites in their database that were obviously months old. This worked in your advantage if you ranked well, as it guaranteed a long spell in the good slots. However, the other side of the coin was glacial movement, though when they finally did update, you could see huge gains.
Again, this is not a sure sign of great things to come from Ask. It could just be a small blip on the search engine radar screen that eventually fades. It’s happened before. Still, you may want to check your referral stats and see what, if anything, is happening there.
