There’s been a change in the Google AdWords placement on search result pages. What’s happened? Before, Google would show the top two AdWords ads in a light blue box above whatever search results come up. You’ll now see that, at least for some searchers, sometimes, all the ads will now be shown on the right side of the page.
How does this work? Google has now come up with a behavior tracking program. If a person does repeated searches without clicking on an ad, the ads formerly shown up top will now shift to the right with all the others.
The idea is that someone who doesn’t click on an ad after all that looking is probably not a good prospect. Therefore they might just be clicking the ad out of boredom or frustration. At least, that’s how Google explains the logic behind it. Personally, I think they might be a good prospect as they aren’t finding what they’re looking for; hence the multiple searches. If they can’t find what they’re after in the ‘regular’ results, maybe the ads will give them a solution.
I’ll pick up the Link Exchange posts shortly.
